The paper has the purest white tone available on the market, without any Optical Brightening Agents, also called OBAs. Optical Brightening Agents are artificial brighteners that deteriorate in time. Canson Edition Etching Rag offers a high paper shade stability and a resistance to aging by using natural minerals.

100% Fine Cotton Rag with no Optical Brighteners. Acid Free. Canson Infinity Edition Etching Rag is a natural tone matt fine art paper, with a smooth slightly textured surface. It has one of the purest natural white tone available on the market. It is a museum grade paper, providing excellent blacks and image sharpness, and its natural minerals offer resistance to ageing and high paper shade stability. Its unique slight grain makes it ideal for detailed work, colour photographs and black and white portraits. Canson Infinity papers are manufactured by the worlds leading Fine Art Paper Mills, Canson and Arches, located in France.

The Arches Mill was founded in 1492 and many literary milestones and works of art have been entrusted to Arches exquisite papers, such as Beaumarchais The Complete Works of Voltaire and Napoleons The Description of Egypt. The Arches watercolour papers have also been a standard for Fine Artists around the world. Canson itself was founded in 1557 and its illustrious history includes the invention of the Hot Air Balloon, made with Canson paper in 1782! Canson is at the origin of many other inventions such as tracing paper, pulp dyes paper, fine textured vellum paper, nanking paper, and paper making techniques such as the continuous paper machine, paper sizing directly in the tank.

In 1865, Canson was granted a patent for a system that simplified the photo printing process and improved the quality of black tones whilst making it less expensive. This invention was rewarded at the International Photography Exhibition of 1892. The unique qualities of these two premier paper mills and their products have been embraced by artists such as Picasso, Chagal, Warhol, Ingres, Miro and Alechinsky. They remain the standard for todays artists. Both companies have now joined force and produce a range of inkjet papers, from the general everyday use to the commercial or specialised market.

One specific range - Canson Infinity - is aimed squarely at the Digital Fine Art market, with papers designed for fine art and archival reproduction. All the papers is this range share the classic fine art characteristic that they do not contain optical brighteners, hence ensuring that the paper itself will not change colour over time, a common problem with white (not warm or natural tone) papers created after the 1950s. The Canson Infinity range is thus defined, like all great Digital Fine art papers, by a traditional base upon which a cutting edge ink receiving layer is placed.
